Latest news: Tenfour produces SA Rugby online magazine

The Springboks and Tenfour Media where a hit of another kind this year when the South African Rugby Union launched the first-ever digital magazine dedicated solely to the Boks and South African rugby.

BOK, a fully interactive digital magazine produced by Tenfour Media for SARU, went live on Friday 23 July 2010 and promptly crashed after more than 100 000 hits were recorded during the magazine site's first few days of operation. Over 1000 new readers also subscribed in the same period. Tenfour where approached by SARU to create a unique magazine experience for Springbok fans and BOK is the outcome.

A new era in media

BOK continues SARU's online efforts in connecting in inventive and refreshing ways with Springbok fans, supporters of the SA Seven's team, the SA Women's team and national age group sides. Featuring unique videos and interactive reader elements with players and management, BOK is able to bring South African rugby fans even closer to their heroes.

"This is a new and exciting area and era for publishing,", says Tenfour Media's editorial director, David Moseley. "While 'page-turner' online magazines have been a web element for some time, BOK ups the ante by incorporating more depth in its pages, bringing the features to life in a way that pure page-turners and printed magazines can't achieve. We're excited that SARU and the Boks have taken this route and can't wait to see how far we can push the envelope."

Readers of BOK have already expressed enthusiasm for the format, with many stating that, "BOK is taking magazines to a new level with real user interaction." Further, some interesting users stats reveal that Springbok fans as far afield as Singapore, Germany and the United States have already subscribed to the magazine. Of particular interest is that the magazine has been 'viewed' 90 times by the United States Government. Who knew John Smit and Co had such far-reaching effect.
